The Umgarian Mining
Caolition had been manufacturing its own specialized
equipment for decades before an "incident"
opened up a unique opportunity for the company to enter
the military market.
During a routine criminal background check at the Vegir
III asteroid mining platforms, it was discovered that
a multiple-homicide suspect was working among the specialized
drilling and core blasting "coldbore" pilots.
Local authorities were notified and responded flying
older police-standard versions of the havoc to make
the arrest. Before he could be apprehended, three havocs
had been destroyed along with dozens of Umgarian's mechanized
security drones.
Umgarian was not slow to recognized the possibilities
the coldbore airframe held as a combat spacecraft. A
military prototype was immediately constructed to evaluate
the market potential of Umgarian as a defense contractor.
Thus, the Umgarian Aerospace division was born.
The Mark II bears very little resemblance to the utility
craft that inspired it. The Mark II is a sleeker, armed
and armored aerospace capable starfighter with top-of-the-line
avionic and sensor systems, shielding, and the military-adapted
drill and blasting technology that made the original
design so deadly in it's lone combat encounter. Umgarian
adapted their proprietary technology by increasing the
effective range of the drill lasers to equal that of
comparable military laser weapons, and modified their
blasting charges to include a semi-shielded tracking
computer as well as increased effective range.
These changes make the Mark II an elegant, powerful,
and deadly starfighter that comes with a premium price.
Though never embraced by any military body in large
quantities, the Mark II can be found all across the
Galaxy functioning in specialized roles or just acting
as a status symbol for an officer or mercenary.
