A-70h Corsair
- All conditions Attack Fighter/Bomber
The Omicron ScoLock
consortium is second in the Galaxy only to the Galactic
ConFederation's military consortium. Though all star
systems in ConFederal space use the GCDF's consortium
for all standard military hardware, there are those
systems who can both afford, and find need, for more
specialized equipment and services. This is where the
Galaxy-wide Omicron ScoLock consortium has found a profitable
market delivering supplementary military hardware to
systems willing to pay the price for an advantage over
their neighbors. Many systems in the ConFederation were
forced into a tenuous peace with former enemies, and
often the show of strength was more a matter of pride
for a star system, more than the necessity of superior
war materiel.
The Corsair is OSL's flagship starfighter product, offering
similar upgrade and customization packages to the GDCF's
Havoc product. The Thunderbird proved to most star systems
that the havoc could only be given so many attack abilities
before it became a very complicated, and expensive,
fighter package. This was solved by the entry of the
Corsair into the market.
Variations of the Corsair are as numerous as the systems
that manufacture it. Originally designed as a dedicated
attack craft, the Corsair packs an overpowered, fast
engine that allows the fighter to be configured with
a vast array of ordinance. The Corsair's ground attack
and capital attack capabilities are marketed as the
best in the Galaxy for a starfighter-class ship. The
payloads the Corsair can carry rival that of much larger,
more expensive multi-crew bombers, in a smaller, faster
fighter frame.
The Corsair is the perfect attack fighter for precision
strikes where speed and subtly are preferred over the
traditional terror-inducing bombing campaigns. Still,
the biggest weakness facing the Corsair is the ship's
lack of defensive weaponry, as it's standard weapons
tend to be under-powered compared to most other modern
fighters. Many systems still prefer a heavily armed
fortress style bomber to dedicated attack craft. But,
the Corsair's speed allows it to be a true supplement
to fighter-bombers with more capable air-to-air abilities,
or escorted as part of dedicated fighter squadrons,
where the Corsair can be a devastating weapon.
