HAF-1 Hornet
- Space Superiority Fighter
The Hiverian corporation
recently decided to try their hand in the starfighter
market, after finding success in the civilian pleasure
craft market. Thier first successful prototype was the
HAF-1, and would eventually go on to become the production
model Hornet after scoring a license to Scuvelli Startech's
curvebeam technology for its weapon systems. Hiverian
built on their license to produce a unique curvebeam
system that allows all curvebeam cannons to be used
in one of two output configurations. Scuvelli's original
system allowed for weapon energy output to be fired
in a gatling-gun style burst from any availalble cannon,
or spread out among all available cannons. This output
could then be changed to true curvebeams from all available
cannons on the fly. Hiverian's modifications allowed
for beam output to fired at the gatling-gun rate, while
still retaining curvebeam properties. Essentially, Hiverian
created a whole new weapon, the curve-gatling cannon.
Though the usual problems inherent with Curvebeam technology remained,
the rate of fire was high enough to compensate, and the Wasp was a significant success. Marketed as an affordable alternative space
superiority fighter the Hornet has carved out a decent
niche for itself in militias who feel the need to avoid
the mainstream.
